SYS.4 – System Integration and Integration Verification (A-SPICE 4.0)

SYS.4 System Integration and Integration Verification – focuses on brining all system elements together and ensuring they work as intended. It verifies that interfaces, data flows and interactions align with the system architecture and meet release expectations.

This process ensures integration issues are detected early, traceability is maintained and clear results are communicated to stakeholders, supporting confident release decisions.

ID: SYS.4
Process name: System Integration and Integration Verification
Process purpose: The purpose is to integrate systems elements and verify that the integrated system elements are consistent with the system architecture
Process outcomes: What do we need to achieve?

  • Verification measures are specified for system integration verification of the integrated system elements based on the system architecture, including the interfaces of, and interactions between, system elements
  • System elements are integrated up to a complete integrated system consistent with the release scope.
  • Verification measures are selected according to the release scope considering criteria, including criteria for regression verification.
  • Integrated system elements are verified using the selected verification measures, and the results of the system integration verification are recorded
  • Consistency and bidirectional traceability are established between verification measures and the elements of the system architecture.
  • Bidirectional traceability between verification results and verification measures is established.
  • Results of the system integration and integration verification are summarized and communicated to all affected parties.

Base practices

SYS.4-BP.1: Specify verification measures for system integration
In this BP we define the “game-plan” for how we will integrate and verify our system. This includes deciding which testing technique to use, the pass/fail criteria, and how the elements will be integrated step-by-step.

SYS.4-BP.2: Select verification measures
Here we take the verification concept defined in BP1 and select the measures that match the current release scope. This includes deciding which tests to re-run for regression and ensuring that all interface and interaction requirements are covered.

SYS.4-BP.3: Integrate system elements and perform integration verification
The work starts: system elements are integrated following the Integration Sequence Instruction and all selected verification measures are executed. This includes regression verification where necessary. The results are recorded and linked back to the corresponding verification measures, ensuring traceability.

SYS.4-BP.4: Ensure consistency and establish bidirectional traceability
Here we focus on providing full traceability and consistency. This means checking that each verification measure is linked to a system architecture element and that every executed result traces back to its planned measure. The outcome will be documented within Consistency Evidence (13-51)

SYS.4-BP.5: Summarize and communicate results
Now we need to close the loop. After completing system integration and verifying all elements, we summarize the results and communicate them to everyone who needs to be involved. Could be management, quality assurance and the engineering teams. The outcome (Communication Evidence (13-52)), proving that these results were distributed and understood by all relevant stakeholders.

THANK YOU!

I hope this gave you a clear understanding of this process step.
